Mechanical Design Engineer (R&D) at B+B Tecnologías Integradas

The accumulated experience in construction field, gained by Estructuras Nacionales (ENSA), a Venezuelan company created in 1955; lead to the creation of the Research and Development Department which converts in 2013 in the company B+B Tecnologías Integradas.

The objective is to take advantage of the accumulated knowledge to manufacture prototypes and future products in order to satisfy constructor needs. Since it was a recent company, we were few engineers but with multitasking skills, needed to take the compane forward.

Some of the activities performed related to R&D were:

Evaluate the needs in the Venezuelan market in construction and advise the directive about respective issues when selecting a product for commercialization.
Perform conceptual, basic and detailed engineering for the development of different products.
Organize activities and resources using Project Management Tools.
Assess production feasibility by estimating project and operations cost.
Decide marketing plans for the product’s commercialization and for market introduction.

Hopper of a mixer machine One of the projects of the company was to design and manufacture a mixer. This machine collects the sand and rock needed to create concrete. The correct relation is achieved using scales that measure the weight of the aggregates. The picture shows a part of the evolution of the machine, but unfortunately this project was stopped because other projects became a priority. low weight formworks simulations These are the low weight formworks which are assembled using the clippers. As the formworks were carried by construction workman, we decide to reduce the weight thinking about the comfort. Performing load simulations and checking stress distribution, it was possible to reduce the weight in 30%. Formwork Clipper Simulation This is clipper used in formworks. This piece is the one that maintain together the formworks and it help the fast assembly of the panels. As mechanical design engineer I was responsible of optimizing the design by reducing weight but paying attention to the stress distribution. It was possible to reduce the weight of the piece by 50%, fact that helps to reduce the cost of the piece and be more competitive in the market. Construction Fair 2014 This year we decided to participate in a construction fair in order to promote our products and study the market needs. We arrange the logistics and we were the promoters of our products. It was a successful experience since it was possible to get in touch with potential clients and get a clearly idea on what are their needs.
